WHEN Lloyd Levine, a California assemblyman, proposed last year that his state become the first in the country to ban energy-wasting incandescent light bulbs, his position was met with outrage.
Lipinski Sheds Some Light on Saving Energy AKRON, Ohio — Some funny-looking light bulbs are getting pretty serious consideration these days. In Australia in February, the government announced it’s phasing out
sales of incandescent bulbs in favor of eco-friendly compact
fluorescent bulbs. A month earlier, a California legislator proposed a
ban on incandescents in that state. And Wal-Mart is in a yearlong
campaign to encourage each of its 100 million regular customers to buy
a compact fluorescent bulb.

Cong. Dan Lipinski (D-3rd), vice chairman of the
House Committee on Science and Technology, called on the Senate on
Tuesday to accept his provision to require the use of high efficiency
light bulbs in federal buildings, which was included in the
comprehensive energy bill that passed the House on Aug. 4.
Lipinski hosted an event at the Kluczynski Federal Building to discuss
the benefits of changing to high efficiency light bulbs and to
demonstrate the ease of use of these bulbs.
